This Full Moon (FM) in the month of Shravan, we have Moon in Aquarius, a sign ruled by Saturn & opposite Sun in Leo. Saturn has a tough relationship w/ both the Sun & Moon as depicted in the mythological tale of Surya (Sun), Sanjana & Chhaya – where Saturn as Surya’s son felt ignored. FM is in Shravan is when Moon (symbolically, the mother) full & bright in her son’s (Saturn’s) house. It’s like your mother visiting you. Saturn, despite his own pain & suffering, is a great teacher of transforming one’s resentments into deeper sensitivity, empathy, compassion & forgiveness. Saturn is the graha that allows you to move (through &) beyond the shortcomings of your elders, parents, teachers, & other authority figures (employers, managers, bosses) – & hold them in compassion as a product of their limiting life experiences; none of it is easy or for the faint-hearted. So, whenever Saturn is strong in the sky like it is right now & either Sun or Moon transit one of the signs ruled by it – like it is on this FM, it is a great time to reconcile with dysfunctional power dynamics (whether at home or work), protect the vulnerable, & develop greater empathy
.
Indians celebrate Raksha Bandhan on this FM, a festival that celebrates the tender, protective bond between brothers & sisters. It’s not about a sister being weak & needing protection but about tendering to the feminine energy in a household while fully understanding that although vulnerable in certain aspects, the feminine is the ultimate nurturer of mankind from whom great civilizations rise
.
Raksha Bandhan celebrations started when Krishna accidentally had a cut & Draupadi, the fiercest of all women during her time, tore a portion of her garb & bandaged the wound. In return, Krishna vows to always protect her – & he did!
Since this FM spans between the nakshatras of Dhanistha & Shatabhishak, paying attention to rhythms, phases or cycles of life – how at every age/turn various lessons unfold in time – will bring deep healing of mind, heart as well as body
.
Take sometime today, to reflect on your own vulnerabilities & triggers but also those that have pained you. Recognize or become aware of limiting life experiences that may have caused someone to do wrong to you. Eg: a boss being hard on their female employees because they were bullied by their sister growing up. Practice empathy – not easy to empathize with someone who has never shown you kindness – but try. Commit to protect the nurturer – the tender, kind energies in your life – whether that’s your little baby, sibling, beloved, or your own heart
.
